The scoop on the MeiraT X AYAI Collaboration!
One day last fall, Brigitte, co-designer at MeiraT answered the phone at the office to find herself speaking with Rumi Neely. Rumi was calling to order some MeiraT pieces for herself. Brigitte was excited- she followed Rumi's Fashiontoast blog . "I'm a big fan" said Brigitte. "MeiraT is one of my favorite jewelry lines", replied Rumi. A lightbulb went off for Brigitte, and she suggested they do a collaboration. And this is how the MeiraT x AYAI collaboration was born.
Rumi visited the MeiraT showroom in NY during Fashion week in February, where the MeiraT design team and Rumi brainstormed. (Luckily we snapped a picture of that day).
They discussed ideas, looked at images that inspired Rumi, and explored various elements of the MeiraT line to come up with some concepts. Sketches were drawn up, scrutinized, dimensions were tweaked and samples went into production. Here are some of the early sketches.
When protypes were in, they were further tweaked. The Calliope hoop for example was redone countless times- Rumi wanted diamonds from every angle and the perfect dimensions so it could stand alone but also be stacked to the max. This was the vision for every style produced for this capsule- that perfect combination of edgy and simple with each piece being that perfected version of itself.
When all the samples were finally in (and perfected), they were shipped out to LA so Rumi could work her magic. When we saw final images we were blown away! The jewelry looked amazing and suited her styling so perfectly and she looked flawless in the pictures (as always) (do you know she doesn't photoshop the pictures? #seriously!??).
So what is the collection about, you might wonder. Rumi describes it perfectly. " Seamlessly linking Meira T's signature look with the delicate subversiveness of ARE YOU AM I, the 8 piece collaboration between the brands includes all the pieces required to complete a modern wardrobe". The pieces are "able to tie together the prettiest undone look," Neely adds. "Barely there diamond hoop earrings beg to be worn in multiples, choker length necklaces are perfect for every day, and thin rings are beautiful alone and stacked."
We asked MeiraT to pick her favorite. "It's a tie between the Calliope hoop and Riadne Spike Necklace" she says. "The Calliope hoop is just that perfect versatile staple- a great investment piece that a girl never regrets buying", "But the Riadne is so different than anything out there, its edgy but still dainty- kind of a strange and hard combo to acheive but this necklace does it!"
